Fire in bus hitting bike in Pudukottai, two killed

Around 20 passengers aboard the Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation bus on its way to Tiruchi managed to disembark

Two people were killed when a bus rammed into a motorcycle near Thirumayam in Pudukottai on Saturday night. After the collision, the motorcycle and the bus caught fire and got damaged.

Around 20 passengers on board the Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation bus on its way to Tiruchi managed to alight.

The vehicle was going over a bridge in the town when the motorcycle hit it from behind.

According to initial reports, the fire broke out in the petrol tank of the two-wheeler and spread to the bus as well.

The motorcycle riders were identified as K.K. of Karaikudi. Manikandan and Pudukottai’s S. Muruganandam, both aged 22, died on the spot.

However, the passengers including the driver and the operator of the bus escaped without any injuries.

Fire and Rescue Service personnel reached the spot and doused the fire. The bodies of the victims have been sent to the government hospital for post-mortem. Traffic on the Tiruchi-Rameswaram highway remained suspended for sometime on Saturday night till the fire was brought under control.
