firecracker shops warning

Virudhunagari

Firecracker shops in Virudhunagar district have been warned of strict action for violating safety norms.

The warning comes in the wake of a fire at a cracker shop in Kallakurichi on Tuesday, in which six people were killed.

Virudhunagar Collector J. Meghnath Reddy said in a statement that the shops should not stock fireworks in excess quantity than permitted.

Similarly, they should have adequate fire fighting equipment and should not sell banned firecrackers. He said that children should not be given employment in shops.

If any violation is found during the inspection, the NOC and license of the shop will be cancelled. Besides, criminal action will be taken against the license holder, the collector said.
