First Omicron case detected in Andhra Pradesh. details here

A 34-year-old foreign traveler from Ireland tested positive for Covid-19 with the latest strain Omicron, the state’s health department said, according to PTI, the first such case reported in Andhra Pradesh.

The person, who had come to Mumbai for the first time, was tested and found negative for COVID-19. After this, he was allowed to go to Visakhapatnam on 27 November.

“Upon conducting a second RT-PCR test in Vizianagaram, he tested positive for COVID-19. His sample was then sent to the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad for genome sequencing and the result came out as micron positive. had come,” the director of public health said in a release.

However, the man had no symptoms and on December 11, a re-test revealed that he was COVID-19 negative.

“There are no other Omicron cases in the state,” the director said. So far 15 foreign travelers who have come to the state were found to be COVID-19 positive and all the samples were sent to CCMB for genome sequencing.

“Out of 15, genome sequencing reports related to 10 cases were received and only one of them was confirmed omicron positive,” the director said. The Director of Public Health asked the people not to worry but to follow the appropriate behavior of COVID and take necessary precautions.
