Five colleges to be upgraded to university level soon: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma Said on Saturday that five colleges would soon be converted into universities to give them autonomy. he was speaking in North East Education Summit Feather national education policy (NEP) Guwahati.
Highlighting the progress made by the State Education Department in the implementation of NEP 2020, Sarma informed that a process has been initiated for upgradation of North Lakhimpur College, Nagaon College, JB College, Sibsagar College and to take the Handique Girls College to University level in the next two years.
“Assam has already made some progress in implementing the policy. We have formed a high-level committee for NEP. The NEP implementation plan has been drafted and the State Education Commission has been constituted,” Sarma said.
Sarma said that NEP 2020 has been made timely by incorporating the scientific temper of the 21st century. This policy is also in sync with the core principles of Indian civilization which is based on the foundation of knowledge and wisdom. He also observed that it would free the student community from the rat race and instil creative and innovative thinking in them.
Beginning his speech with a Sanskrit slogan, the chief minister also quoted Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who had said, “The end product of education should be an independent creative person, who can fight against historical circumstances and the adversities of nature”.
Nani Gopal Mahant, Advisor, Education Department delivered the welcome address, while B Kalyan Chakraborty, Principal Secretary, State Education Department, proposed the vote of thanks.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Handloom and Textiles Minister UG Brahma, Tea Tribe Welfare Minister Sanjay Kishan, Shankardev Education and Research Institute Principal Ramanand Das, Principals of various educational institutions, educationists and other dignitaries were present.
