Lucknow: An afternoon flight with 148 passengers going to Lucknow faced “bird strike” while taking off New Delhi Airport on Tuesday.
After a long flight of 47 minutes, the plane landed safely at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, but hours later it was stopped by aircraft engineers after closer inspection.
On anonymity, Lucknow Airport Official sources said the flight’s pilots felt the bird strike near the plane’s lower left fuselage at 2,600 feet while ascending Delhi air After take off from Indira Gandhi Airport.
The source said, “After the hit, the pilots felt a burning smell inside the cockpit and cabin for five to six minutes. However, the dashboard/instrument panels of the aircraft were showing normal readings to indicate the health of the aircraft. The journey continued,” said the source.
He said, “The pilots did not inform the air traffic control about the bird strike while landing at Lucknow airport at around 2:51 pm. About an hour later the ground handling staff informed the Lucknow airport authorities about the incident. done, after aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) started inspection of the aircraft.”
The unscheduled inspection delayed flight for 117 passengers bound for Delhi.
“Initially the AME expected the aircraft to be cleared for takeoff by 8 o’clock, but soon the air of doubt was cleared and the 150-seat Airbus A320-232 was declared unfit (aircraft on the ground) for immediate departure. An empty plane was brought from New Delhi at 7.53 pm and it took off at 8.57 pm with all 117 passengers,” said the source.
According to Lucknow airport officials, “It is not immediately clear whether the pilots informed the traffic controller of the New Delhi airport about the incident, as they did not inform Lucknow ATC.”
