Flow increased in Mettur dam

About 1.40 lakh cusecs of water is being released into the Cauvery river from 11.30 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, with the flow continuing into the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur.

The inflow of 51,000 cusecs of water increased to more than 1.40 lakh in the evening at 8 am on Tuesday, after which the flow of water was also intensified. About 23,000 cusecs of water is released through the dam’s power house while 1.17 lakh cusecs is released through the reservoir’s 16-vent Ellis saddle.

Meanwhile, the district administrations of Salem, Erode and Namakkal have issued a flood alert to people living along the river and in low-lying areas and asked them to move to safer places. The administration has also warned people not to enter the river to take a holy dip on the occasion of Aadi Perukku festival.

While Karmegam asked people to take holy dip only at permitted places, Erode Collector H Krishnanunni and Namakkal Collector Shreya P Singh have banned the entry of people into the river on the occasion. The collector has warned that action will be taken against the violators.
