You should know that you feel guilty because you care for your children.

As a parent, you feel solely responsible for ensuring the safety as well as the well-being of your children. You may be worried or fearful that you are not doing enough for your child. It is perfectly normal to feel guilty in such a situation.

Here are 5 tips to help you deal with parenting guilt.

• Remember, you care: Try to keep in mind the most important factor is that you care and that is the reason why you feel guilty. Striking the right balance between compassion and realism can be difficult at times. But, keeping this in mind can control parental guilt.

• No one is perfect: Most of the time, parents focus too much on doing things perfectly or in general the ‘right’ way. There are usually several ways to accomplish a task that you feel satisfied with. Remember, the pursuit of perfection will only result in failure and regret later.

• CONNECT WITH THE CARETAKER: Encourage your kids to play with new toys and make new friends. Learn as much as you can about the staff or nanny looking after your child, as this will help you be satisfied when you are at work. Try to develop a close relationship with your children, so that they can confide in you about their struggles.

Avoid negative self-talk: Even though guilt can motivate you to act constructively, it can also cause you to wrongly associate your actions with your characteristics. This can lead to negative self-talk and inaccurate self-evaluation. Get in the habit of talking positively to yourself to avoid negative feelings.

• Remember, life is not perfect: you must recognize your flaws. Your child must understand that neither they nor life in general are perfect. They will eventually find it easier to admit and accept their flaws. Also your child’s resilience can be strengthened by the adjustments they must make to deal with your imperfections and the imperfections of our world.
