New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated a hologram statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate – under the dome that houses the statue of British Emperor King George V. Speaking at the inauguration, he said, “The role of our heroes, whose memories were being erased after independence… are now being revived.”

Taking a jibe at the successive Congress governments since independence, PM Modi said: “It is unfortunate that after independence, work was done to erase the culture and rites of the country as well as the contributions of many great personalities.”

Then underlining that point, he said, “The freedom struggle involved the penance of lakhs of countrymen. But attempts were made to limit their history as well. But today, after decades of independence, the country is rectifying those mistakes. “

One of the iconic freedom fighters, Netaji won the post of Congress President in 1938. In his second presidential term, he left the Congress after disagreements on policy issues with Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and other prominent leaders. Then he formed the Azad Hind Fauj and adopted the path of armed revolution.

The controversy over Netaji’s death is a highly emotional issue, especially in Bengal and many people still believe that he did not die in a plane crash in 1945.

In response to a question under the Right to Information Act in 2017, the Center had confirmed that Subhas Bose had died in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945.

“It is my good fortune that last year, on this day, I had the opportunity to visit Netaji’s ancestral residence in Kolkata… the car in which he left Kolkata, the room in which he studied, the stairs of his house, his house. Walls, seeing them, that experience is beyond words,” PM Modi said today. PM Modi said, ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav resolves that India will revive its identity and inspiration.

The 28 ft by 6 ft hologram statue is powered by a 30,000 lumen 4K projector. Light is projected onto a high grain, 90 percent transparent holographic screen that is not visible to visitors. The hologram, the prime minister has said, will be replaced by a granite statue.

After this, the Prime Minister also presented the ‘Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar’ at an ornamentation ceremony. The government has instituted the award to recognize the invaluable contribution and selfless service of individuals and organizations in disaster management.

This year, the government has also announced that Republic Day celebrations will now start from January 23 instead of January 24 to include the birth anniversary of Netaji. It will end on January 30, the day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
