Former India women’s cricket team coach and retired India opener WV Raman has been appointed as the batting consultant of Bengal Ranji team for the upcoming season.

Raman will be joined by former Bengal captain Lakshmi Ratan Shukla, who has been appointed as the team’s new coach.

The decision was taken by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) following the resignation of Arun Lal following Bengal’s semi-final loss to Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.

“Raman has accepted the offer. He will be part of various camps but will not be available during the tournament as it was the flexibility that both the parties agreed upon. CAB president Avishek Dalmiya had called Raman and asked him if He is available, and he immediately agreed to don the consultant’s cap,” a senior Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official told PTI on Monday.
