Former IPS Officer Asim Arun Joins BJP As Super Sunday In UP, Former MLA Dara Singh Chouhan To Forge Alliance With SP

Former IPS officer Aseem Arun, who was posted as Kanpur Police Commissioner before taking voluntary retirement recently, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Sources say that Asim Arun can be fielded from Kannauj in the upcoming assembly elections. Another bureaucrat expected to join BJP today is retired IAS Ram Bahadur.

Bahadur had contested the 2017 assembly elections on a BSP ticket and contested from Mohanlalganj seat. Though he lost by a marginal margin of around 530 votes, it is expected that Ram Bahadur may once again field from Mohanlalganj, but this time on a BJP ticket. After 2017, Bahadur had formed his own political party Nagrik Ekta Party and has been active on various social and political issues. The retired IAS was once considered the right-hand man of BSP supremo Mayawati and enjoyed some prominent postings in the state.

On the other hand, Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of the state Akhilesh Yadav has called a press conference at 12:30 pm on Sunday at the Samajwadi Party headquarters. It is expected that former minister in Yogi Adityanath cabinet Dara Singh Chouhan may formally join Samajwadi Party along with other rebels.

After resigning on January 12, Chouhan said that he had worked with dedication for the last five years but Dalits, OBCs and the unemployed did not get justice from the BJP government. After sending his resignation to Governor Anandiben Patel, he said, “The poor had formed the government, but in the last five years others took advantage of it.”

Forest and Environment Minister Chouhan said that he has been apprising the party high command about the problems. But he was neglected as he was talking about backward and downtrodden, he claimed.

Sources also say that Imran Masood, a former Congress leader and a well-known Muslim face in western UP, may also officially join the Samajwadi Party along with some more leaders from western Uttar Pradesh.
