Former MLA Selvaganabathi is NDA’s candidate for Rajya Sabha elections

Speculations end, S Selvaganabathi, a former nominated MLA representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been nominated as the NDA candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the Union Territory.

“The BJP Central Election Committee has decided S Selvaganabathi as the candidate for the biennial election to the State Council from Puducherry,” said a press release issued by BJP national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh on Tuesday night.

For the last two days, the BJP’s central leadership, Home Minister A Namasivayam and Chief Minister N. The decision was taken after talks between Rangasamy. Mr Selvaganabathi was nominated to the Assembly by the Center in 2018 and his term ended in the 14th Assembly. He runs educational institutions and is a sympathizer of the RSS.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy met Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan. This was the second meeting between the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister in consecutive days.

After meeting the Lieutenant Governor on Monday morning, the Chief Minister had called a meeting of party MLAs at a private hotel on Monday night. In this late night meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the claim made by the Bharatiya Janata Party for the lone Rajya Sabha seat.

On Tuesday morning, two BJP MLAs A. John Kumar, PML Kalyanasundaram and Independent G. Nehru alias Kuppusamy also met the Lieutenant Governor at the Raj Niwas.
