Former Head of the Department of English, Osmania University, Prof. M. Sivaramakrishna passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Hyderabad. The last rites will be performed at Amberpet crematorium at 11 am on Wednesday.
An outstanding scholar, Professor Sivaramakrishna made a great contribution to the development of critical studies on Indian writing in English. His insight into Indian poetry in English brought him international fame. Deeply influenced by Ramakrishna and Vivekananda Vedanta philosophy and tradition, he associated himself with the Ramakrishna Math.
He was instrumental in developing English proficiency programs at the Vivekananda School of Languages at Ramakrishna Math. His colleagues and students mourned his passing, remembering their association with him.
