Chandigarh: Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been booked in a drug racket case, accusing his party of political vendetta.

Majithia on Monday lodged an FIR in Mohali under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The SAD termed the move as political vendetta.

Talking to reporters in Muktsar, SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal said, “We were already aware of this.

He said the Congress government changed three state police chiefs to try and arrest Badal and Majithia.

Take me wherever you want, I’m ready. Badal, who was the Chief Minister of Punjab five times, said that any government which indulges in this vendetta has to face the consequences.

He said that the government’s job is to serve the people and not indulge in political vendetta.

A few days ago, the SAD had expressed apprehension that Majithia would be implicated in a false case.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted, “After 5.5 years of battle against the corrupt system run by the Badal family and Capt. Finally now the first step has been taken after pushing credible officials to positions of power and influence!!

FIR has been registered in Punjab Police Crime Branch against main culprits of drug trade on the basis of STF report of February 2018 in which I made this demand 4 years back – it is a slap on the face of all those powerful who sleep for years On the issues of the soul of Punjab, Sidhu said in a series of tweets.

He said that the fight against drug mafia would continue.

Unless the main culprits of the drug mafia are given exemplary punishment, justice will not be served, this is only the first step, we will fight till the punishment is given which acts as a deterrent for generations. We should choose honest and righteous people and stay away from drug smugglers and their patrons.

Anti-drugs Special Task Force (STF) chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu submitted a report on the drug racket case to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2018.
