Four people died in an emergency landing of a small Russian passenger plane with 14 passengers and two crew in a forest in southeastern Siberia on Sunday, the emergency ministry said.

Investigative Committee The law enforcement agency said the L-410 plane was taking off from the city of Irkutsk, having come down 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) from its destination, the village of Kazachinkoye.

Interfax news agency reported that according to preliminary reports from local emergency services, an instrument had failed, which the crew had reported prior to the hard landing.

Initial media reports said 11 people were trapped after the plane came down. In footage circulated on social media, purportedly from the landing scene, rescue workers with stretchers are shown lighting torches near a river at night.
