French President Emmanuel Macron begins US tour, meets Kamala Harris at NASA Headquarters

New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron meets with US Vice President Kamala Harris at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) headquarters in Washington. During the meeting, he discussed with Harris “the continued strengthening of joint investment in space exploration and exploration of the Moon and Mars”.

According to a statement issued by the White House, “Macron is currently on an official visit to the United States. Both Macron and Harris agreed to strengthen US-France space cooperation in the civil, commercial and national security fields.

The meeting was held in the backdrop of the November 2021 meeting which took place in Paris. According to the statement, “France has signed the Artemis agreement to guide civilian use of space, the United States has joined the Space for Climate Observatory (SCO) to develop accessible tools for climate monitoring and adaptation.” since that meeting.

The Vice President had announced not to conduct a destructive, direct-ascent anti-satellite missile test in April 2022. France announced the same promise yesterday. In the meeting, the expanded participation of the United States in the SCO and the upcoming launch of the US-France Surface Water and Ocean Topography Mission were also discussed.

After arriving in the US, Macron tweeted, “USA! A moment to celebrate the friendship between our two countries. A moment to progress together in times of great challenges.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “And do we have differences on some things? Of course. We always do, but we always work through them. And so, for example For, when it comes to some of the concerns we’ve heard in Europe about some of the provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act that go into creating incentives for investment in the United States — we’ve echoed some of the concerns expressed by our European partners heard – we immediately set up a task force with the EU to work through those concerns, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
