This year India is celebrating Friendship Day on 7th August.

This year, India is celebrating Friendship Day on 7 August. It is celebrated to cherish and honor the relationship of love, trust and respect we share with our friends. No two friends are alike as each one brings a different flavor to our lives. This brings us to the question: What are the qualities of a good friend?

You probably haven’t had a lot of wonderful and wonderful friends over the years. For many people, being friends with people seems daunting, considering how much hard work and energy a person has to put in.

With so many casual acquaintances to nurture, you often don’t know where the friendship will blossom. Knowing what makes some of them more unique than others can help you choose the right friends going forward.

Here are the 5 qualities that a friend should have:

1) Assistant

It is important to surround yourself with friends who are supportive in times of both joy and distress. A supportive relationship creates a sense of spontaneity and further affects our mental well-being. Even if you have to fight your own battles, the presence of a supportive friend/friends makes the journey easier. Although they may not always agree with your likes or point of view, they genuinely care about you.

2) non-judgmental

Your friend may disagree or question your decisions, but they will never judge you for the choices you make. Around them, you can come to the table as your true self.

3) loyal

Every relationship demands loyalty and this is perhaps the most prized quality. So, when it comes to friendship, loyalty means that you make your friends feel secure. Loyal friends are fair and they do not believe in conditional friendship. The deserving of loyalty and truth go hand in hand. If your friends are loyal, they all deserve to be trusted.

4) good listener

Instead of giving you feedback or giving you a philosophical lesson in a few days, all you need is a friend to listen to you. Friends who are good listeners give you space to speak and validate your feelings. They are not dismissive of your feelings, and above all, they help you find the right perspective.

5) Biggest critic

Best friends are your biggest critics and they are willing to say things that most people would not say. They tell us what we don’t want to hear. Such friends pat our backs on achievements and make us look in the mirror for things we don’t want to admit or face.
