great singer Lata Mangeshkar died on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai At the age of 92. ‘The Nightingale of India’, as she was popularly known, was taken to the intensive care unit on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19. Presenting generations with unbridled joy through her songs, the icon has been India’s favorite voice since her debut in the 1940s. Therefore, the loss seems personal to fans who have been paying tribute to the singer since the news of her death became public. Eminent personalities from various fields have expressed their deep condolences on social media.

Members of the music industry, in particular, have expressed deep sorrow over Doyne’s death. Musician-singer AR Rahman, who has worked with Lata Mangeshkar several times, shared a picture with the icon and wrote, “Love, respect and prayers.”

Singer Shreya Ghoshal shared a black and white picture of Ms Mangeshkar and said, “Feeling numb. Devastated. Yesterday was Saraswati Puja and today Mother took a blessing with her. Somehow it seems that today even the birds, the trees and the wind are silent. Swara Nightingale Bharat Ratna. Lata Mangeshkar ji your divine voice will resonate for eternity. rest in peace. Calmness.”

“Music is orphaned today,” said singer Adnan Sami. “Our ‘Nightingale’ is blown away. We have been thrown into the dark. We will truly miss him and still feel blessed that we lived in his lifetime and we had the privilege of breathing the same air in which he was a I had breathed my last. Dear sister, thank you for everything.”

Singer Shaan shared old pictures of the legend on Instagram and wrote, “She was heaven sent for us so we will know what God’s voice sounds like… Maa Saraswati’s voice… Divinity’s voice.” Talking about her bond with Ms Mangeshkar, she said, “Thanks to my father, I am privileged to have his love and blessings all these years.”

Singer Chinmayi Sripada said, “It is indeed the end of an era. Lata ji may go through this physical realm – she will live forever and her voice will always be with us.

“Deeply saddened to hear that Lata didi has passed away! There are no words. She was Maa Saraswati to me and all the singers,” wrote singer Kumar Sanu while paying respects to Ms Mangeshkar. He also added, “She was a blessing to the music industry. May God rest his soul. Calmness.”

Singer-composer Vishal Dadlani shared a note about his conversation with the legendary singer. “He called me during the last Indian Idol season. She was full of laughter and joy while talking about the music. I break down thinking about that chat with him. I am very grateful for what Lata Mangeshkar ji taught me and every musician in India and I have to personally thank her.”

Suresh Wadkar shared an old picture of himself with Ms Mangeshkar. In the caption (originally in Hindi), he wrote, “Today, on the day of Saraswati Visarjan, our mother Saraswati went back to her world. She will always be with us with her voice.

Composer-guitarist Ehsan Noorani shared an image of the late singer and said, “There was magic in her voice… Her songs will bless generations.”

Singer Lisa Mishra shared a picture of Ms Mangeshkar and wrote, “It will never be the same. My earliest memories are of my mother singing Lata ji’s songs in every room of my childhood home. These are the songs that made me sing, it’s the voice that gave me mine.”

Neha Kakkar also shared a picture and wrote, “My voice is the identity… there will never be anyone like Lata Mangeshkar ji (There will be no one like Lata Mangeshkar).

In honor of the great singer, The national flag will remain at half-mast for two days. The last rites will be performed today at 6.30 pm with full state honours.
