Fuel prices hiked for the fourth consecutive day; Petrol crosses Rs 120 in MP and Rs 115 in Mumbai

Petrol and diesel prices on Sunday were hiked by 35 paise a liter for the fourth consecutive day, pushing pump rates to new record highs across the country, with high incidence of local taxes such as the costliest fuel in Madhya Pradesh. . Diesel is now priced at Rs 98.07 in Delhi and Rs 106.23 per liter in Mumbai. This is the fourth consecutive day of increase in prices. There was no change in rates between October 25 and 27, before which the prices were hiked by 35 paise per liter for four consecutive days.

While petrol has already touched Rs 100 per liter or more in all major cities of the country, diesel has touched that level in more than one and a half dozen states. Diesel prices crossed that level in areas from Jalandhar in Punjab to Gangtok in Sikkim. Prices vary from state to state, depending on local taxes and the cost of transportation. Petrol price crossed Rs 120 per liter in places like Panna, Satna, Rewa, Shahdol, Chhindwara and Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh.

The same level has also been crossed in the two border towns of Ganganagar and Hanumangarh in Rajasthan. Ganganagar has the most expensive fuel in the country, with petrol priced at Rs 121.52 per liter and diesel at Rs 112.44 per litre.

Petrol prices have been hiked 25 times since September 28, when the three-week hiatus in rate revision ended. Overall, the prices have gone up by Rs 8.15 per litre. Diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 9.45 per liter in 28 hikes since September 24.

Earlier, between May 4 and July 17, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 11.44 per liter. During this, the price of diesel was increased by Rs 9.14 per liter.
