Petrol and diesel prices in India have been stable for over a month as on Monday, 4 July 2022. Fuel prices remained unchanged after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 21 cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. ,

Retail petrol and diesel prices vary based on state and local taxes, such as freight charges or VAT. With rising fuel prices, the operating cost of vehicles has also increased.
On 2 July 2022, the Government of India imposed export tax on petrol, diesel and ATF. The government proposed a tax of Rs 6 per liter on the export of petrol and ATF and Rs 13 per liter on the export of diesel.

Crude oil prices fell on Monday as investors feared a recession, although supplies remained tight. Brent crude futures ended 2.4 per cent higher at $111.28 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was up 2.5 per cent at $108.11 a barrel.
Ahead of the July 4 holiday in the US, Brent and WTI traded at 77% and 70%, respectively, of the previous session’s volumes.
