The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the trial court to complete the trial within six months in a case related to the death of a motorcyclist in Madurai in 2019. Earlier, the court had directed the Madurai Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to register a case against a suspended head constable who was allegedly held responsible for Vivekanandakumar’s death.

It is said that Vivekananda Kumar was returning home with his friend Saravan Kumar on a motorcycle, when Head Constable Ramesh Babu hit the vehicle with a stick during vehicle checking. Vivekanandakumar suffered head injury after falling from his motorcycle near MGR Bridge. He was immediately taken to the Government Rajaji Hospital, where he died due to the injuries he sustained. The pillion rider suffered from shock.

Police officials claimed that the motorbike rider tried to run fast in an attempt to evade the vehicle’s check. The relatives of the deceased have demanded appropriate action against the policemen involved in the incident and compensation to them.
