Gaming and esports app Rutgers signs Yuzvendra Chahal for live gaming content

New Delhi: Game streaming and esports app Rutgers has signed cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal to create content for its platform. Leg-spinner Chahal, the company said, follows his passion for gaming whenever he gets a chance and creates social media videos with his wife Dhanashree Verma Chahal on various platforms.

The streaming community and viewers on the app can also chat with Chahal while he is live to play Battlegrounds Mobile India, an online multiplayer battle royale game, and Garena Free Fire, the company said in a statement.

Dipesh Agarwal, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Rutgers said that the country has always been obsessed with cricket and gaming has also become more mainstream in the last two-three years. “We are merging both of them and bringing together the best of both worlds. The community can connect with them and discuss their cricketing life as well as learn their unique gaming strategies while on the platform. Live stream on it.”

Chahal said, “I started playing online games like Call of Duty during the lockdown and since then, have become addicted to first person shooter games. Being with him will give me an opportunity to connect with the talented players of the country and connect with my fans.”

The company said it has 35 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

According to Sequoia India and Boston Consulting Group, who have co-authored a report on Mobile Gaming Market by 2025, India’s gaming sector is expected to reach $5 billion by 2025. There are now over 300 million gamers in India, and all gaming has revenue. The devices reached $1.8 billion in 2020, a 500% increase from 2016. The big driver is mobile gaming, which had $1.5 billion last year.
