Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: 5 cities to witness grand celebrations

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi: The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated across the country India From today 31st August and in many states devotees are ready to celebrate this occasion with all the traditional fervor. The states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka are known for celebrating Ganesh Puja with pomp.

According to the Hindu calendar, which is the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the 10-day long festival begins on the Chaturthi of the month of Bhadrapada. The festival ends with Visarjan on the 10th day, which this year falls on September 9.

Mumbai

Mumbai is the first city that comes to our mind when we think of Ganesh Puja celebrations. Every year thousands of idols are worshiped at puja pandals and public places in the financial capital. The spirited celebration was started in 1893 by freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak as a step to unite Indians against the British. They put up huge hoardings and called everyone irrespective of their caste and communities to be a part of the Ganpati festival. Since then, the process of celebration continues till today.

Hyderabad

You might not know, but Hyderabad is another city where people celebrate the festival in a grand manner. Khairatabad, Kamalanagar Balapur, Chaitanyapuri, Old City of Hyderabad (Gaulipura) are some of the popular pandals in the city. It is said that the oldest pandal is the Gowlipura Ganesh pandal while the largest idol of the deity is installed in Khairatabad.

Pune

Pune is also known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra. During the era of Peshwas, Lord Ganesha was widely worshiped with devotion and a lot of spectacle. Kesariwada Ganpati, Kasba Ganpati, Tambadi Jogeshwari Ganpati, Guruji Talim and Tulsi Bagh Ganpati are some of the famous Ganesh pandals in the city that you can also visit.

Kanipkamo

Kanipakam is a hidden gem of the festival. This village is located in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The village has an annual grand festival known as Brahmotsavam. The festival lasts for 21 days, starting from Ganesh Chaturthi.

Goa

Vinayaka Chaturthi is widely celebrated in Goa. The festival has special significance in Mapusa, which has famous temples at Ganeshpuri and Khandola. The idols in the state are eco-friendly and made of cane, coconut cells and bamboo. Devotees flock to temples and pandals during the festival.
