Amid the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities that began across the country on Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has constructed artificial ponds for immersion of Ganesh idols in Mumbai. The civic body has created 162 artificial ponds and asked devotees to immerse Ganesh idols made of plaster of Paris (POP) in these artificial lakes to reduce pollution.

According to BMC, there are 162 artificial ponds and 73 natural immersion sites available for immersion of Ganesh idols. Lifeguards have also been deployed.

On the occasion of the one-and-a-half day Ganpati festival, 22,687 idols of Ganpati were immersed in artificial ponds in Mumbai yesterday.
Mumbaikars perform Ganpati Visarjan on different days during this 10-day long festival. Large idols of Ganesha are taken out on the last day of the festival ‘Anant Chaturdashi’ which falls on 9th September.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day long festival which began on 31st August and will end with Visarjan on 9th September. Mumbai is celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi By and large, Covid has not been curbed after a gap of two years.
Idols of Lord Ganesha have been installed in houses and many pandals.
