Garbage picker killed in stray bullet injuries during attempted robbery in southeast Delhi

A rag picker was allegedly shot dead on Monday at Pul Prahladpur in southeast Delhi, police said on Monday.

A PCR call was received around 11.15 am about a person being shot at Rampyari camp in the area, an official said. “On reaching the spot, a rag picker was found dead near a public toilet with a bullet injury on the right side of his chest,” the officer said.

About half an hour later, a man came to the police and told them that when he was going to the bank to deposit some money, two men stopped him on the way near Rampyari Camp and tried to rob him.

A milk supplier man saw that one of them was carrying a gun and immediately left but the accused fired a shot in his direction, which hit the rag picker. Having managed to reach the bank, the milk supplier returned to the spot and narrated the sequence of events to the police.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Julia Dafadar, a resident of Bengali Colony, Tughlakabad, the official said, adding that an empty cartridge has been recovered from the spot.

A case has been registered under sections 398, 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and a search is on for the accused.
