Gehlot will hold the last meeting of his current council of ministers today: Report

Ahead of the proposed cabinet reshuffle, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will hold the last meeting of his current Council of Ministers on Saturday evening when the ministers are likely to resign.

“The meeting will be held at the chief minister’s residence at 5 pm,” official sources said. Sources said the cabinet meeting has been called ahead of the proposed cabinet reshuffle and the ministers are likely to resign.

Govind Singh Dotasara, Harish Chaudhary and Raghu Sharma on Friday offered their resignations in writing to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Sources said the oath-taking ceremony is likely to take place on Sunday at the Raj Bhavan.

AICC general secretary Ajay Maken reached Jaipur last night and told reporters about the resignations of three ministers who wanted to work for the party.

While Dotasara is the PCC chief, Harish Choudhary and Raghu Sharma are in charge of the party’s affairs in Punjab and Gujarat respectively. After his resignation, the strength of the cabinet has come down from 21 to 18.

Rajasthan can have a maximum of 30 ministers including the Chief Minister. The demand for cabinet reshuffle was gaining momentum for the last several months with the Pilot camp demanding the inclusion of supporters of former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot in the government.

Apart from the Congress MLAs, the independents who supported the government and the MLAs who joined the Congress from the BSP also have hopes from the reshuffle. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had recently indicated that the cabinet reshuffle would happen soon.
