General Motors used ChatGPT in vehicles

Shares of General Motors were down nearly 2% on Friday amid a broader decline.

Detroit:

General Motors Co is exploring uses for ChatGPT as part of its broader collaboration with Microsoft Corp, a company executive told Reuters on Friday.

GM vice president Scott Miller said in an interview, “ChatGPT is going to be in everything.”

Miller said the chatbot can be used to access information on how to use vehicle features typically found in owner’s manuals, program functions like garage door codes, or integrate schedules from a calendar .

The news was first reported by website Semaphore, which stated that the American automaker was working on a virtual personal assistant that uses the AI model behind ChatGPT.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a multibillion-dollar investment in ChatGPT-owner OpenAI and said it aimed to integrate the chatbot’s technology into all of its products.

Microsoft, like other big tech companies, is ramping up its efforts to embed more technology in vehicles, from infotainment systems to automated driving to operating systems that control battery performance and many other vehicle functions.

In 2021, GM partnered with Microsoft to accelerate the commercialization of driverless vehicles.

GM shares were down about 2% on Friday amid a broader decline.
