GHMC to appoint special commissioner for lakes

The officer will be given the responsibility of preparing an action plan for the development and conservation of water bodies.

As per the decision taken by the state government, a special commissioner will be appointed under GHMC for development and conservation of lakes within Hyderabad metropolis.

For this, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao has issued instructions to Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar during the review meeting on Monday.

The Special Commissioner will be given the responsibility of preparing a comprehensive action plan for the development of 185 lakes and other water bodies within Hyderabad city, Mr. Rama Rao said. He said that this would accelerate the already ongoing programs for beautification, development and conservation of lakes. Special Commissioner responsible for sewerage management, construction of sewage treatment plants, diversion of treated water, correcting full tank level of lakes, conservation of irrigation sources, beautification of lakes, strengthening of lake dams, development of green cover on dams Will be and other such works.

The District Level Lake Conservation Committee will work under the Special Commissioner, who will have to work in coordination with all other concerned departments like irrigation, revenue, city administration and state pollution control boards. The Lake Conservation Force, which is currently functioning under the Enforcement Wing, will now work under the Special Commissioner.

Shri Rama Rao reviewed the work done by the Strategic Nala Development Wing, which is an integral part of Lake Conservation, for the development and conservation of lakes, and stormwater drainage development. He also reviewed other programs of GHMC including SRDP, Link Road, Musi River Development and Road Development.
