Global PC shipments decline sharply in the second quarter of 2022

New Delhi : Global personal-computer shipments fell the sharpest in nine years in the June quarter, showed preliminary estimates by market researcher Gartner released Tuesday. A total of 72 million PCs were shipped worldwide during the quarter, down 12.6% from a year ago.

Europe, the Middle East and Africa combined saw the biggest decline of 18%, while in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan), PC shipments declined 5.2%. International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates published on Monday showed a massive 15.3% drop in global PC shipments during the quarter.

Gartner’s results are not based exclusively on the region of India, which has been one of the fastest growing PC markets since the pandemic. However, Navkendra Singh, Director of Research, IDC India, pointed out that growth in the consumer segment has slowed down in India as well, although some demand in the commercial segment continues. The slowdown has had an impact on buyer sentiment. “Careful spending by consumers and reverting to regular devices like smartphones when schools reopen” are some of the other factors that have impacted the market, Singh said. “The commercial segment is doing well for now. However, there has been a slowdown and the fear of bearishness has delayed the buying.”
