Gordon Murray is arguably one of the greatest modern car designers on the planet. Of course, he’s best known as the brains behind Ayrton Senna’s McLaren Honda since the late ’80s, but from there he designed some of the most iconic supercars of all time, such as the McLaren F1, Rocket and McLaren Mercedes. SLR. Last year, they showcased the T.50, which they believe is the true successor to the McLaren F1, and now that the T.50 is ready for delivery to customers, it has launched the T.33, Which is inspired by a $1.82 million supercar. GTs from the 60s but featuring the same principles that typify cars like the McLaren F1 and T.50.

Murray revealed that his company will only make 100 units of the T.33 per SKU – although a Spyder version is also planned – so there will be 300 cars in total. It uses the naturally aspirated 3.9-liter V12 engine from the same Cosworth-designed T.50, but has been slightly reworked to be more road-usable. This means that it tops out at 607 bhp which is slightly less than the T.50 and still spins at a stratospheric 11,100 rpm in a package that is slightly taller and heavier at under 1,100 kg. Murray believes it is still lighter than most cars and has a better power to weight ratio than the McLaren F1. In doing so, his team has worked on improving the torque delivery of the engine which makes it more useful while cruising.

It is also a more traditional car as it takes advantage of a traditional two-seater configuration, in contrast to the central driving position that Murray championed with the McLaren F1 and more recently the T.50. It also gets the same Extract-designed 6-speed manual gearbox, but this time around Murray is introducing a new paddle-shift automatic gearbox, which he calls the world’s fastest gearbox. That said, Murray acknowledged that most customers have opted for the far more attractive manual gearbox. The car also gets three luggage compartments including the frank. There is also a new RAM induction system. Internally, there is no screen, a very premium yet minimalist design that also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
