“Go door-to-door, take help of religious leaders”: PM on vaccination

PM Modi holds review meeting with districts with low COVID-19 vaccination coverage.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that COVID vaccines should now be taken door-to-door with equal attention given to the second dose. He also suggested involving religious leaders and youth organizations like National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme for this campaign.

Several states, including Maharashtra, are asking the Center to allow door-to-door vaccination, especially for those who are sick or otherwise unable to visit vaccination centres.

Today in a virtual meeting of Chief Ministers and officials of those states where vaccine coverage is less than 50 per cent, PM Modi said: “So far all of you have made arrangements to take people to vaccination centres. Vaccines should be done now. There should be a door-to-door vaccination.”

The meeting was attended by magistrates from over 40 districts of Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and other states with low vaccination coverage. The Chief Ministers of these states were also present on this occasion.

“Under the free vaccine campaign, we have given about 25 million vaccine doses in a day. It shows our capability,” he said.

Now the motto is ‘Har Ghar Ka Tika, Ghar Ghar Jaar Tika’. It is with this spirit that we have to reach every home, the Prime Minister said.

“We have to focus on every village, every town. If you have to make a different strategy for every village, do it… You can make a team of 25 people. You can also take help of NCC and NSS. Let us do Will make more and more people aware,” the Prime Minister said.

He suggested that the officials ensure that people take their second dose while implementing door-to-door vaccination. Because whenever the cases of infection start decreasing, sometimes the sense of urgency subsides. People wonder what it is. Hurry up, we will get it,” the Prime Minister said.

Recently at the G20 summit in Rome, the Prime Minister had said that India has given one billion doses. In the country of 1.3 billion people, nearly three-quarters of adults have received an injection and 30 percent have been fully vaccinated, according to government figures.

But earlier this week, the Prime Minister’s Office, announcing the meeting, said it would include officials from districts that have less than 50 per cent coverage of the first dose and less coverage of the second dose of the COVID vaccine.

The government aims to completely vaccinate the country’s adult population by the end of the year.
