Goa: BJP nominates Canacona MLA Ramesh Tavdkar for the post of President. Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: BJP canacona MLA Ramesh tawadkari filed his nomination for the post on Sunday speaker, whose election is to be held on Tuesday. Monday is the last day for nominations.
Tawadkar, who is from BJP A cadre by profession and a school teacher filed three sets of nominations.
He was accompanied by nominated CM Pramod Sawant, Curtorim MLA Alexo Reginaldo Lourenco, Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar, Sangam MLA Subhash Phal Desai and others.
Sawant said that Tavkar, who was elected thrice from the BJP, filed his nomination for the post of president. Sawant said that Tavdkar would be elected with a thumping majority.
“We have 25 MLAs in the Assembly and there is a possibility that two more MLAs may support Tavkar in getting elected,” he said.
Tavdkar, a school teacher, was sports minister in the government of former CM Manohar Parrikar in 2012. Tawadkar was first elected in the 2005 by-election from Poinguinim. He was re-elected in 2007. After delimitation in 2012, he was elected from Canacona and was made a minister.
Tawadkar had contested as an independent in 2017 after being denied a BJP ticket. In 2019, he rejoined the party with the assurance that he would be given a ticket to contest the 2022 assembly elections. In the recently concluded election, BJP refused to give its ticket to sitting MLA Isidore Fernandes and gave it to Tawadkar, who belongs to ST community.
Police will deploy 2,000 jawans for oath-taking security
Panaji: Goa Police will deploy around 2,000 personnel to provide security to VVIPs attending the swearing-in ceremony of Pramod Sawant-led new state government on Monday, and efforts have been made for zero error in security. Speaking to TOI, DGP Indra Dev Shukla said that it is “a huge deployment” for the ceremony.
