Goa issues guidelines for travelers from ‘at risk’ countries amid Omicron surge

Panaji : The Goa government on Tuesday announced a slew of guidelines amid growing concerns due to the global spurt in new coronavirus variant ‘Omicron’ cases.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting of officials with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in view of the growing global concerns over the latest edition.

Officials of Goa Health Department, Airport and Mormugao Port Trust also attended the meeting.

“The state government will follow the guidelines issued by the central government to avoid the spread of coronavirus in the country. While all international travelers will have to mandatorily undergo RT-PCR test, those arriving from 12 countries, where the Omron variant It turns out, will be isolated for 14 days,” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister, in his official statement, said that all international travelers, except travelers from 12 countries, will have to undergo self-isolation upon arrival in the state.

Sawant said the central government is expected to frame a policy on chartered flights on Wednesday, which will bring clarity on the upcoming tourist season.
