Panaji : Tourism The department on Tuesday issued an order to give 50 percent rebate in registration and renewal fee of various tourists. business activities, As the last two seasons were badly affected, the shanty operators as well as other service providers had sought relief.
This demand was also made because the department had introduced a new fee structure, increased them for various services, rationalized the charges. The services that were left out were also brought under the purview of the law.
Stakeholders wanted the government to hold on to the implementation of the new fee until the situation improved and submissions were made to the government.
The government finally decided to give a 50% discount instead.
In the last season, only beach hut operators were given exemption in license fee. This year, the benefit has been extended to more services.
50% relief in registration and renewal fee are eligible for ‘C’ and ‘D’ category hotels, dealers, travel agents and tour operators, watersports activities, private huts and huts, photographers, tourist guides, deck beds and umbrellas, adventure Work Sports Activities and Spice Plantation.
The fee already paid for the financial year 2021-22 will be adjusted against the amount due for the next year, read the order issued by tourism director Menino D’Souza.
A tourism trader said that things have been very difficult for small time operators, be it a taxi operator or a person running a small Jagest House.
“Payment of EMIs was a big problem, though there was some relief on that front, but due to prolonged shutdown, stability became difficult. Then the registration and renewal fees were increased, adding to our problems. Some relief is welcome,” said a small-time watersports operator.
