Independent MLA from Goa Prasad Gaonkar on Wednesday lauded the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) and its chief. Mamata Banerjee He said that he fought against the BJP in the West Bengal elections.
Addressing a press conference in Goa in the presence of TMC MP Derek O’Brien, Gaonkar made it clear that he would not resign as an MLA for the time being.
“There is a need for change in Goa and hence I have decided to support the party led by Mamata Banerjee,” the Sangum MLA said.
TMC has decided to contest the assembly elections in Goa to be held next February.
Gaonkar had initially supported the Manohar Parrikar-led government when he came to power after the 2017 elections, which he later withdrew.
What we have seen in Goa during the last five years is the exposing of anti-people policies by the BJP. People are suffering under this government, he said and added that the country is witnessing a “positive change in the form of Mamata Banerjee”.
I am supporting TMC. We have seen how Mamata didi took on the BJP in West Bengal. She is a symbol of women empowerment, Gaonkar said.
