The derailed train consisting of 42 wagons was carrying cement from Tamil Nadu which was to be landed at Aluva and Kollam railway stations.
Rail traffic on the Shoranur-Ernakulam corridor was disrupted since the early hours of January 28, after a goods train derailed at Aluva railway station yard.
Since then a dozen trains have been canceled as trains in both the directions are diverting from the available single track. A senior railway official said that the derailed train consisting of 42 wagons was carrying cement from Tamil Nadu which was to be landed at Aluva and Kollam railway stations.
He said normalcy was expected to be restored only by 12 noon, as several wheels of the four wagons had derailed, which got detached from the wagons in the impact of the derailment. Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram, R. Mukund along with other senior railway officials has reached the spot to oversee the resumption of traffic.
The following train services have been canceled due to derailment of the train.
Train No. 16341 Guruvayur-Thiruvananthapuram Express which was scheduled to depart Guruvayoor at 3.25 AM on Friday, Train No. 16305 Ernakulam- Kannur Express was scheduled to depart Ernakulam at 6 AM, Train No. 16326 Kottayam-Neelambur Express was scheduled to depart Kottayam at 5.15 AM. Train No. 16325 Nilambur – Kottayam Express is scheduled to depart Nilambur at 3 PM, Train No. 16439 Guruvayur – Ernakulam Express Special departs Guruvayur at 6.50 AM, Train No. 22628 Thiruvananthapuram – Tiruchirappalli Intercity Express departs Thiruvananthapuram at 11.35 AM. Train No. 06449 Ernakulam – Alappuzha Express Special departing from Ernakulam at 7.20 AM, Train No. 06452 Alappuzha-Ernakulam Express Special departing Alappuzha at 6 PM, Train No. 06797 Palakkad-Ernakulam MEMU Express Special Departing Palakkad. Train No. 06798 Ernakulam – Palakkad MEMU Express Special will leave Ernakulam at 7.20 AM and Train No. 06017 Shoranur – Ernakulam MEMU Express Race Special will leave from Shoranur at 3.30 AM.
