Google announces new security features: account security status, virtual cards and more – Times of India

Google announced several new additions to its products at I/O 2022. The company revealed more details about the next version of its mobile operating system, Android 13, enhancements to search, google docs, Google Meet, YouTube and more. Along with all this, the company also announced new security features aimed at making internet browsing and shopping ‘safe’.
Here’s how Google is planning to keep you safe
Account Security Status: Google is adding users’ security status to the apps it uses. These updates will have a simple yellow alert icon on the profile picture marking the actions they should take to secure their account.
Phishing Protection in Google Workspace: Google is rolling out phishing and malware protections that protect Gmail on Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.
Automatic 2-Step Verification: Google says it will continue its journey toward a passwordless future with 2-Step Verification (2SV) auto enrollment to help improve the security of your Google Accounts and reduce the risk of phishing. It will build on its work of auto enrolling 150+ million accounts in 2SV last year.
Virtual Card: Google is launching a virtual card chrome and Android. With these virtual cards, when users use AutoFill to enter their payment details at checkout, the virtual cards will add an extra layer of security by replacing your actual card number with a different, virtual number. This eliminates the need for users to manually enter card details like CVV at the time of checkout. These cards will be easy to manage on pay.google.com – where users can enable the feature for eligible cards, access their virtual card numbers, and view recent virtual card transactions. Virtual cards will be rolled out in the US Visa, American Express and all Capital One cards, along with MasterCard later this year. There is no information yet about when and when these virtual cards will be launched in India.
Protected Computing: The introduction of protected computing will ensure the privacy and security of user data. Google says it ensures user privacy and security by reducing user footprint on the Internet, randomizing data, and restricting access to user data. Now, people can easily request results about them from Google Search. It is being said that this feature will come to the Google Search app in the coming months.
