Google ink deals with TS Govt. For digital economy for youth, women entrepreneurs

Technology giant Google on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to enable young and women entrepreneurs to benefit from the digital economy.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao said the state and Google have had a long and fruitful relationship. He said that the tech giant has supported Telangana and its development by using innovative technology solutions to benefit the people of the state.

“We are working with Google on improving digital literacy, encouraging small businesses and start-ups, improving Internet access in local languages, and many other initiatives that have positively impacted citizens of various regions. Through this new MoU, we are focusing on bringing about a change in the youth, women and students and most importantly, civil services,” said Mr. Rao.

He said the Telangana government is partnering with Google for Education and empowering public schools with digital education through Google for Education’s shareable tools and collaborative tools. Through the Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge, the government is offering Google Career Certificate Scholarships to deserving youth in fields such as IT Support, Automation, UX Design, Data Analytics and Project Management.

In collaboration with We Hub, Google Nano will leverage its Women program to provide digital, business and financial skills to micro and small women-led businesses, he added.

Explaining what will be achieved through the MoU, Google India Country Head and Vice President Sanjay Gupta said that children in Telangana will be able to use technology for faster learning and youth are being helped to learn digital skills.

“I think we need to ensure that women become entrepreneurs, and I think there is no better city than Hyderabad that really enables women to take the leap. We have been partnering with the Telangana government for many years. Really excited about the multiple streams of work being done in India, and this move is deepening it further,” he said.
