Google pays tribute to legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan on his 93rd birth anniversary

Today’s Google Doodle, illustrated by Bangalore-based guest star Nupur Rajesh Choksi, celebrated the 93rd birthday of one of India’s first Method actors and widely one of the country’s most influential actors, Sivaji Ganesan.

Villupuram Chinnaiah Ganesan, alias VC Ganesan, was born on October 1, 1928, at Villupuram in the then South Arcot district of Tamil Nadu, to Rajamani, a railway employee and freedom fighter.

At the young age of 7, she left home and joined a theater group, where she began playing child and female roles, then went on to play lead roles. The first milestone in his career was his portrayal of the Maratha warrior Shivaji in the play Shivaji Kanda Empire Written by CN Annadurai, the founder of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, who became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1967. Name Shivaji became iconic and Ganesan took the crown in his extraordinary film career.

The big break in Shivaji’s career came in 1952, when he acted as a hero. ParashaktiA film directed by Krishnan-Panju and written by DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

Shivaji had an extraordinary talent for delivering dialogues. He pioneered an excellent style, accent, intonation and tenor.

Playing a variety of characters from Bhagwan and Raja to common people, there was no such role which was not on screen.

Critics have listed several films as his best in terms of performance. However, according to the actor, his career was the best Kapplottiya Thamizhan, which tells the life of VO Chidambaram, a freedom fighter.

It was considered a great injustice that the actor known as ‘Nadigar Thilagam’ never won the National Award for Best Actor. it was his cameo role starring Kamal Haasan thevar magni, released in 1992, received the Special Jury Award of the National Award Jury in 1993. (Shivaji, incidentally, declined the award.) In 1995, France awarded him its highest honour, the Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. Towards the end of his career, the Government of India honored him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1997, India’s highest award in the field of cinema.

The bungalow number 17 on Chevaliyar Sivaji Ganesan Road, where Star lived in the heart of T Nagar, Chennai, was named ‘Annai Illam’. The property, where his family lives, was bought seven years after his debut Parashakti.\

After Kamaraj’s death he joined the Congress led by Indira Gandhi. In 1989, he formed his own Tamizga Munnetra Munnani and single-handedly suffered a humiliating defeat in the elections. He later served as the leader of the Tamil Nadu Janata Dal for some time, but soon stopped being active in politics.

The great actor’s films have had an impact on the general psyche of the people and he was probably the first film personality from Tamil Nadu to receive such massive love and respect for his excellence in acting.

When asked about the message that he hopes people take away from his doodles, Nupur Rajesh Choksi Said: “They will feel Sivaji Ganesan’s infectious vibrant energy and all the joy, passion and pride that he brings to his work by looking at the doodle. He inspires and lives on through his work, so I hope it Will encourage more people to pursue their dreams and express themselves creatively, freely and with conviction.”

Shivaji’s grandson and actor Vikram Prabhu tweeted, “Appreciate the people of Google India and their guest star Nupur Rajesh Choksi for the doodle art. Another proud moment!uD83DuDE0D Love him and see him more every year Remember!”.
