Google Pixel 6 Android software support timeline leaked ahead of launch

Google And Apple Android and iOS may be at loggerheads for their respective operating systems. However, Apple has a unique advantage when it comes to the longevity of a device. The company offers relatively long-term software support compared to Android OEMs. Google is planning to change that with the launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

A recent leak suggested that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will receive a total of four OS upgrades and five years of security patches. The information of the leak has been taken from the Twitter handle of ‘Snoopitech’. This also confirms an earlier leak which claimed that Google will be providing security patches for the Pixel 6 series for a total of five years.

If the reports are true, the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be supported until at least 2026, which will rival the longevity of the iPhones. This assurance will help the buyers who are planning to keep their devices for a long time.

The availability of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro is also expected to be limited to a few countries. We will get more clarity on the availability of the device during the launch date on October 19th.

The Pixel Fall launch event can be streamed online through the company’s official YouTube channel and other social media handles.

Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 phone will be the first to feature the company’s in-house Tensor chip. Google will introduce a new camera sensor as large as a 50MP unit. The device will come with Android 12 out of the box and Google will talk more about the features and performance during the launch event.
