The increase in the workforce over the years and the creation of many new establishments for crime investigation and delivery of citizen centric services have led to the shortage of space in the DCP office. To address the issue, the Commissionerate Police has sent a proposal to the government to convert the office space into a multi-storey building through the Director General of Police (DGP). The office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Khurda started functioning from the same building in 1980. On the introduction of the Commissionerate Police System on January 1, 2008, DCP Office Started working from the building. “Being an old structure, the building requires regular maintenance with huge expenditure,” read the proposal of the Additional Commissioner of Police Uma Shankar Das DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal on 20 May.
After the introduction of the Commissionerate Police System, the staff strength of the DCP office has increased and the number of new sections/cells have been commissioned by dividing the existing rooms. Presently, 26 specific sections or cells are functioning from the office. The rooms are in dilapidated condition and difficult to repair.
One room in the building is for the DCP and the other for the subordinate officer of the rank of Additional DCP. In addition, there are two rooms for officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and 24 rooms for functioning of different sections and special cells. At present there are five additional DCPs, three ACPs and four inspectors in the DCP office.
“We were forced to divide rooms to accommodate our chambers and officers. There is vacant space in the office which can be used for the construction of a multi-storey building,” the proposal said.
