Government body considers dress code for Dakshina Kannada temples Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: After making traditional dress mandatory at Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple and Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple in Dakshina Kannada district, the Karnataka State Religious Council plans to implement the same code in all 216 ‘A’ grade temples under the Department of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Is. State.
The council is a government body that recommends rituals, worship, and the formulation of dress codes for devotees entering government-controlled temples. The Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments department has to approve the council’s recommendations and send them to the cabinet for approval before they can be implemented.
Council member Kashekodi Suryanarayan Bhat told TOI that it is not possible to implement a uniform dress code on all temples in the state. Based on the customs of the area, the council will formulate a dress code. “The council discussed the proposal in its meeting recently. A dress code is not a rule, but it is about the tradition prevailing in a particular region,” he said.
The dress code is still in the early stages as the council is expected to have a detailed discussion on the do’s and don’ts. The code will be implemented in a phased manner after getting approval from the government.
Recently Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal organized a padyatra to demand dress code in temples. Right-wing organizations have put up boards at several temples in the coastal district, requesting devotees to wear traditional attire while entering the temples.
