India Post has invited applications for 237 posts of Dak Sevak, Assistant Branch Post Master and Branch Post Office in post offices spread over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. On May 3, the department released a notification for 39,000 posts across India including 2,410 posts in Karnataka.

Senior Superintendent of Posts, Mangaluru Division, N Sriharsha said that those who have passed their class 10 or SSLC examination can apply for the post. “Selection will be purely on the basis of marks obtained in class 10/ SSLC examination. There will be no written test or interview,” he said and added that applications should be filed online at www.indiapostgdsonline.gov.in by June 5.

The work of Dak Sevak includes performing packing duties in rural and sub-urban areas and delivering mail to homes. The duties of Assistant Branch Post Master include delivery of mail, speed post articles and providing door to door banking services. The Branch Post Master manages the affairs of the Gramin Dak Seva Post Office, and performs other duties.

Unlike in the past, when applicants applied for the posts across India, this time the applicant has to apply for the posts in a particular division. There are 75 vacancies in Mangaluru Postal Division covering Mangaluru, Mulki and Ullal and 97 in Puttur Division, which includes Bantwal, Belthangadi, Sulia, Puttur, Kadaba and Moodabidri taluks. There are 65 vacancies in Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala taluks.

local people not interested

Like other government jobs, not many people of Dakshina Kannada are applying for Dak Sevak and two other posts.

“Out of the 81 vacancies for which applications were sought in 2021, only 53 were filled. Of this, out of 53, only eight persons were from Dakshina Kannada,” said Sri Sriharsha. He hoped that this time more applications would come from the local people which, he said, were essential for a stable administration.

A Branch Post Master will be paid a minimum of ₹14,000 per month for a four-hour working day, while an Assistant Branch Post Master/Dak Sevak will be paid a minimum of ₹10,000 and ₹12,000 for a four-hour working day. Five hour working day. Dearness allowance of 34 percent of basic pay and other allowances will be payable for all the three posts. They will be covered under the National Pension Scheme.
