Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan speaks to the media about the recent developments in the state after meeting the Prime Minister in New Delhi

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan sounded a bit cautious, yet made it clear that the Telangana government should respect the office of the governor as it is not about an individual but a constitutional office.

She was expressing her views to reporters in New Delhi after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to brief her on the recent developments in Telangana.

Ms. Sundararajan said the governor’s office should not be insulted and leaves it to the people of Telangana to judge the government’s recent attitude towards the governor’s office, including violation of protocol in some cases. “If the government wants to insult the governor, I leave it to the wisdom of the people. I am a woman and a friendly governor. I never made controversial remarks,” she said.

On the violation of protocol, he asked whether the Chief Secretary was not aware of the protocol. The district collector and the superintendent of police are also aware of the protocol. He argued that it was about respecting the office of the governor and not an individual.

His remarks gave enough credence to speculation that relations between the government and the governor’s office had soured in recent days and that the governor’s address to the budget sessions of the assembly was ignored by the government, citing some technical reasons.

The remark also assumes significance in the light of recent developments where protocol was violated during his visit to the Sammakka Saralakka festival in Mulugu district, where no minister or collector or even the superintendent of police welcomed him. Didn’t, which is common practice. any state.

Similarly, the governor was also not invited to inaugurate the renovated Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta, which is now being called as Yadadri. Days after the temple was opened to the public, the temple executives went on leave when the governor visited them, while the district collector, SP or even local ministers and MLAs stayed away.

On the government avoiding the governor’s address to the assembly for the start of the budget session, she said she could have appreciated the good decisions of the government if the report was given to her.

Ms Sundararajan further clarified that the rejection of the government’s suggestion to nominate Kaushik Reddy as MLC under the governor’s quota had nothing to do with politics. The nomination was rejected as he was not eligible to be nominated under that quota. “I, as a constitutional head, have to follow law and order,” she said.

He said that his office is always open and if I have pointed out some issues then the chief minister or minister can come and discuss. She said that she has been talking about good infrastructure in government hospitals for a long time, adding that she was upset after a patient in the ICU of Warangal’s MGM Hospital was bitten by rats. “I am straight forward and I work with transparency. I always wish good relations with the government.”

On ministers and senior government officials staying away from the Ugadi ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, he said that many people responded to the invitation and some who could not attend, called and informed in advance.
