Govind Singh replaces Kamal Nath as Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly

Senior Congress leader Dr Govind Singh has replaced Kamal Nath as the Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, an official said on Tuesday.

Former MP Chief Minister and Congress veteran Kamal Nath had last week resigned from the LoP post as part of the party’s ‘one man-one post’ policy.

Later, Govind Singh, a seven-time MLA, was appointed the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state.

The official said that AP Singh, principal secretary of the MP assembly, issued a notification to nominate Govind Singh as LOP on Monday.

The Congress leader, who represents the Lehar seat of Bhind district, is the 25th LOP of the state assembly. Nath will continue as the president of the Congress unit in Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are due next year.
