Govt issues notification to allow retrofitting of CNG kits in BS-VI vehicles

The Union Ministry of Road Transport has issued a notification, which proposes to allow modification of vehicles by retrofitting cng and lpg kitIn case of Bharat Stage (BS-VI) vehicles, diesel engines of less than 3.5 tonnes will be replaced with CNG/LPG engines, according to a statement issued on Saturday.

As of now, retro fitment of CNG and LPG kits in motor vehicles is allowed under BS-IV emission norms.

“This notification sets out the type approval requirements for retro fitment. CNG is an eco-friendly fuel and will reduce emission levels of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particulate matter and smoke as compared to petrol and diesel engines.”

“It has been prepared in consultation with the stakeholders. Comments and suggestions have been invited from the concerned stakeholders within a period of thirty days.”

It was stated by the Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari that the existing vehicles running on diesel and petrol will be replaced by green fuel and electric vehicles.

He had also recently said that if we do not replace diesel with biofuel, the country’s crude oil import bill will increase so much. 25 lakh crore in the next five years.
