Govt MTNL, BSNL assets on sale at base price of ₹970 cr

Asset monetization is part of ₹69,000 crore. Revival Scheme for State-owned Firms

According to documents uploaded on the DIPAM website, the government has listed for sale the immovable assets of state-run telecom companies MTNL and BSNL at a reserve price of around Rs 970 crore.

BSNL properties located in Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Bhavnagar and Kolkata have been posted for sale at a reserve price of approximately ₹660 crore.

The website of Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has listed MTNL properties located in Vasari Hill, Goregaon, Mumbai for sale at a reserve price of approximately ₹310 crore.

PK Purwar, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL said, “This is the first phase of asset monetization in MTNL and BSNL.

“Bids have been invited for assets of Rs 660 crore of BSNL and Rs 310 crore of MTNL. We plan to complete the entire process within one-and-a-half months.

MTNL’s 20 flats located in Oshiwara have also been put up for sale as part of the company’s asset-monetisation plan.

The flats consist of two units of 1 room set, 17 units of 1 bedroom hall and kitchen (BHK) and one unit of 2 BHK. Their reserve price ranges from ₹52.26 lakh to ₹1.59 crore.

E-Auction for MTNL

The e-auction of MTNL properties will be held on December 14.

The asset monetization is part of the ₹69,000 crore revival plan for MTNL and BSNL that was approved by the government in October 2019.

Both the public sector firms were to identify and monetise assets worth Rs 37,500 crore by 2022.

“We will go ahead with the market demand for asset monetization,” Mr. Purwar said.
