Govt will ask all automakers to make flex-fuel engines: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on October 20 said that the government will ask all automakers to make flex-fuel engines under Euro VI emission norms in the next six-eight months.

Addressing an event, Shri Gadkari further said that in the next 15 years, the Indian automobile industry will be valued at ₹15 lakh crore.

“We were planning to submit an affidavit to the Supreme Court to allow the manufacture of flex-fuel engines under Euro IV emission norms… which can run under Euro VI emission norms in the next 6-8 months on more than one fuel),” he said.

Shri Gadkari claimed that the cost of vehicles would not increase after making it mandatory for all automakers to manufacture flex-fuel engines.

The minister predicted that India would be able to export green hydrogen in the coming days.

The government has decided to jump directly from Euro IV emission norms to Euro VI standards for petrol and diesel in January 2016.
