Grand celebrations at Yadgir, Raichur

Basaveshwar’s birth anniversary was celebrated in a grand manner in both Yadgir and Raichur districts on Tuesday.

A procession was taken out with the participants carrying a picture of Basaveshwara. At the same time, a car rally was organized by Basava Youth Association in Yadgir.

Meanwhile, the district administration in both the districts celebrated Basava Jayanti.

In a program organized at the Veerashaiva Kalyan Mandap in Raichur, Member of Legislative Assembly Shivraj Patil lauded the social reforms initiated by Basaveshwara in the 12th century. He said that the 12th century sharans under the leadership of Basaveshwar tried to remove social evils and caste discrimination through their words.

Professor Sidhu Yapalparvi, who delivered the special lecture, said that the concept of Anubhav Mandap [similar to today’s parliamentary system] It was first introduced by Basaveshwara. He [Basaveshwara] Fought against gender inequality and caste discrimination and also stressed on the need of education for women.

Raichur Deputy Commissioner L. Chandrashekhar Nayak, Additional Deputy Commissioner KR Durugesh, Superintendent of Police Nikhil B and community leaders were present.

In a similar program organized in Yadgir, MLA Venkatreddy Mudal said that the social reforms implemented in Basaveshwara’s era were highly effective. The most important reforms were inter-caste and widow marriages. He said that Basaveshwar’s teachings are relevant even today to empower the society through his words in the 12th century.

Subhash Chandra Kaulgi, Principal of Government Degree College, gave a speech on the reforms initiated by Basaveshwar.

Besides Yadgir, Deputy Commissioner Sankargowda Somanal and others were present.

Meanwhile, political parties, pro-Kannada organizations and other private organizations also celebrated the social reformer’s birth anniversary.
