Grandparent’s Raising

Birmingham, Ala. (WBRC) — The pandemic has changed a lot when it comes to family gatherings and support. Strict rules still apply when it comes to hospital visits, including who can be in the room when the baby is born.

But some new grandparents don’t let the rules dwindle Wednesdays while they wait for their grandchildren.

They arrived early to put up a tail-gate in Ascension St. Vincent’s parking lot, making sure the parents could see them out the delivery room window, and cheered Mama all day. And throughout the day kept on hailing Mama.

Mike Gray, also known by the new title “Puppy,” says, “had to arrive here and plan the parking lot and be where we wanted to be and show up early and get our spot.” “Covid protocols are what they were, we had to show up to support our family, this is our tribe and we are here in any way we can to support our family. We love to tailgate and have fun. ,

It’s the first grandchildren for both sets of grandparents, and the couple headed out to camp, which features a pop up tent, chairs, a camping stove for cooking lunch, and signs of being a parent.

“We understand the Covid protocol, we all experience it where we work and things like that. We are good with it. We know everyone is trying to keep us safe. We want our little booger to be safe and in a good environment, but at the same time we want to show our support and show our love to our family and we want them to know that we are here for them. We are taking the current situation and showing our best support.”

Workers and delivery nurses were so impressed by the grandparents’ antics that they came out to show support, bringing them snacks, coffee and balloons. Finally, the mom got checked out while she was in labor, but we’ll keep you updated.
