Grocery app Zepto launches 10-minute food delivery service in Mumbai

Instant grocery delivery app Zepto has recently joined the bandwagon of instant food delivery service. Via a statement, this Y Combinator-backed start-up recently announced that they are foraying into 10-minute meal delivery through their own app ‘Cafe’. This service is initially available in Mumbai region. As a part of the service, they will distribute ready-to-eat products to their customers. And reportedly, Adit Palicha, the company’s co-founder and CEO, said that it is a snack delivery (not food delivery) service, and that his company has no plans to enter food delivery that includes full meals, fast food and more. A lot is involved.

“Let me clarify that we are not doing food delivery. This is a cafe format, with ready-to-drink coffee, tea and packaged snacks (such as biscuits and sandwiches). We do not want to distract from our core business. By creating a complex supply chain for food distribution, where quality is difficult to control,” the 19-year-old CEO said in an official statement.

Palicha said, “We launched the Zipto Cafe format as a pilot a few weeks ago, and we have seen an incredible response from customers. We will continue to change the model for some time so that we can perfect the customer experience and Entity Economics Before Scaling.”

He further broke down the data behind the model in a quick Twitter conversation with industrialist Anand Mahindra. Palicha said, “Average [average] The Zepto delivery distance is 1.8 km. To travel 1.8 km in 10 minutes, one has to drive at a speed of <15 kmph. This is why the Zepto has 3.1x fewer accidents on average [average] Compared to a regular biker on the road."
